The process of verifying templates requires WhatsApp approval before they can be used and sent to customers. Here is the general flow of the process:

  1. Creating a template: The user creates a message template that can be used to send recurring messages to customers or users.

  2. Submitting the template for verification: The user submits the created template for verification on the WhatsApp platform. This can be done through the WhatsApp Business API development tools or in the user interface of the WhatsApp Business tool.

  3. Verification by WhatsApp: The WhatsApp team performs verification of the submitted template. Various factors are checked, including compliance with content guidelines, compliance with terms and conditions, correct formatting and usability of the template.

  4. Approval or rejection: After verification, WhatsApp decides whether to approve or reject the template. If approved, the template is added to the user's account and can be used to send messages. If rejected, the user receives feedback on the reasons for rejection and can make the necessary corrections before resubmitting for verification.

Best practices when creating WhatsApp templates

  • Understand the purpose: Before you start designing a template, understand exactly what its purpose is and what type of communication it will be used for.

  • Simplified language: Use simple and understandable language that is easy for the recipient to digest. Avoid complicated terms and sentences.

  • Short and concise: Limit the length of the template to make the message clear and direct. People mostly dislike long messages.

  • Avoid grammatical or spelling mistakes, which are associated with spam and can result in rejection of your template.

What causes a template not to be verified?

When creating message templates in WhatsApp, it is important to follow the guidelines for prohibited content. This means eliminating any material that may be considered inappropriate or prohibited.

Templates are often rejected for the following reasons, before you proceed to submit it for verification, make sure you avoid these errors:

  • The content contains adult issues, topics related to cryptocurrencies, ICO (Initial Coin Offering), and other content that is restricted from being promoted on platforms owned by Meta

  • The message template contains content that violates WhatsApp's Trading Policy. Transactions must comply with WhatsApp's Commercial Policy.

  • The message template contains content that violates WhatsApp's business policies: do not request confidential IDs from users. For example:

    • do not ask to share full payment card numbers,

    • financial account numbers,

    • national identification numbers or other confidential identifiers. This includes not requesting documents from users that may contain confidential identifiers.

  • The content contains potentially offensive or threatening content, such as threatening the customer with legal action.

  • The message template is a duplicate of an existing template.

If Whatsapp does not accept your template, it means that Meta standards and rules have been violated.

Remember to create templates that are not only effective in communicating your message, but also comply with ethical rules and regulations for content promotion. Striving to maintain a positive brand image and avoiding controversial topics are key elements when creating content for WhatsApp!
