How to set up a teaser in a Pop-Up?

The teaser is a launcher that lets visitors reopen a pop-up they closed. Learn how to enable and configure it.

Written by Erico Azevedo

Some visitors close a pop-up not because they do not want the discount, but because they want to browse products and check prices first. The teaser is a launcher that stays on the page after the pop-up is closed and lets visitors return to the form at any point of their visit — without showing the large window again.

According to edrone internal data, a standard pop-up without a teaser converts at around 1% on average, while a pop-up combined with a teaser converts at around 3%. The teaser does not force an immediate decision and gives you a second chance at a sign-up.

💡 Quick Win: The teaser is disabled by default. If you already have a pop-up running, open the Set teaser section — simply turning it on can increase sign-ups without changing anything else in the campaign.

How to enable the teaser

You configure the teaser in the pop-up settings panel. Expand the Set teaser section and switch on Enable teaser.

The teaser appears under the same rules as the pop-up — location, scheduling, device, and subscription status. You do not set them separately, so if your pop-up is shown only to unknown users, only they will see the teaser too. You will find the details in Overview of display rules in Pop-ups.

Teaser type

Type

What it looks like

When to use it

Bubble

An icon with a short message in a speech-bubble shape

A universal choice to start with — visible, but not dominant

Button

A classic button with text

When you want a clear CTA, for example “Get 10% off”

Corner

An element built into the corner of the screen

When you want to save space and interfere with the page layout as little as possible

Side tab

An element pinned to the left or right edge of the screen

When the bottom corners are already taken by a chat widget or other elements

Sticky bar

A bar visible throughout the whole visit

For messages that should stay present, such as a time-limited promotion

Sticker

A light, decorative form

When you do not want to break the page aesthetics with a heavy element

Teaser position

You can choose from eight positions: top left, top center, top right, middle left, middle right, bottom left, bottom center, and bottom right.

You can also set the Horizontal offset and Vertical offset in pixels (24 px each by default). Use them to move the teaser away from the edge of the screen or from another element.

⚠️ Important: The default position is the bottom right corner — the same place where the chat widget usually sits, including AI Sales Chat. If your store has a chat, choose the bottom left corner or a side tab, or increase the vertical offset. Overlapping elements reduce the effectiveness of both.

Appearance

Setting

What it does

Corner radius

How rounded the teaser corners are (16 px by default)

Background color

The main background color of the teaser (HEX code)

Icon and text color

The color of the content — make sure it contrasts with the background color

Close icon color

The color of the cross that hides the teaser

Show shadow

Adds depth around the teaser; improves visibility on a light background

Icon

You can choose from seven icons: Percent, Percent badge, Tags, Gift, Bell, Star, and Star in circle. Match the icon to the benefit you offer:

  • Percent or Percent badge — a percentage discount

  • Tags — a promotion or a sale

  • Gift — a free gift with an order, a Spin & Win prize

  • Bell — a notification about a promotion or a back-in-stock product

  • Star or Star in circle — a loyalty program, a featured offer

Motion

Motion

Effect

When to use it

None

The teaser is static

When the page already has other animated elements

Pulse

The teaser pulses gently

When you want to draw attention without an aggressive effect

Shake

The teaser makes a short movement

For gamification, such as Spin & Win, where motion matches the mechanic

📌 Tip: Do not use animation if the store already has an animated banner, a chat, or a carousel. Several moving elements at once distract the user instead of directing their attention.

Show close icon

This option lets a visitor hide the teaser without opening the pop-up.

We recommend turning it on. A user who is not interested in signing up can remove the element from view instead of looking at it for the whole visit. This improves the shopping experience and reduces the risk of the teaser being perceived as intrusive.

Best practices

  • The teaser does not replace the pop-up. The pop-up captures attention, the teaser lets visitors return to the form after closing it. They work best together.

  • Show the benefit, not the feature. “Get 10% off” works better than “Newsletter”.

  • Check for collisions. The teaser must not cover the chat widget, the cookie bar, contact icons, a sticky menu, or the “add to cart” button.

  • Test it on a phone. A position and size that work on a monitor rarely work on a small screen. The teaser has to be easy to tap one-handed.

  • Show it to the right people. Set the pop-up subscription status to Unknown only or Unsubscribed and unknown — the teaser inherits that setting and will not push a sign-up to people who are already subscribed.

Teaser and Spin & Win

With a Spin & Win pop-up, the teaser pays off especially well — a user who did not spin the wheel right away can come back to the draw later. In that case, set the Gift or Star in circle icon and the Pulse motion.

Check before publishing

  • ✅ The teaser is visible after the pop-up is closed — test it on the live site, not only in preview.

  • ✅ It does not overlap the chat, the cookie bar, a sticky menu, or the store CTA.

  • ✅ It is readable and easy to tap on a phone.

  • ✅ Clicking it opens the sign-up form.

  • ✅ The icon and text color contrast enough with the background color.

  • ✅ It is not shown to people who are already in your database.

Frequently asked questions

Does the teaser replace the pop-up?

No. The teaser works as a complement — the pop-up captures the user’s attention, and the teaser lets them return to the form after closing it.

Do I have to set the teaser display rules separately?

No. The teaser inherits the location, scheduling, device, and subscription status rules from the pop-up it belongs to.

Does the teaser work with Spin & Win?

Yes. The teaser is part of the pop-up configuration, so you can also enable it in a Spin & Win pop-up.
