Bounce Rate indicates what percentage of sent messages were rejected by the recipient's servers. A low value means most messages were delivered correctly.

Remember that a high ratio of Bounce Rate indicates a poor mail server configuration.

Bounce Rate Level

  • 2-3% means you are a good sender, keep it up!

  • 5% means you should take a look at your shipping practices.

  • 10% and more does not mean anything good. This percentage indicates that you have serious deliverability issues and need to take corrective action quickly.

Types of message "bounces" included in Bounce Rate

  • Hard Bounces - are usually caused by reasons such as: the recipient's address does not exist, the domain name does not exist or the recipient has blocked e-mail delivery. A Hard Bounce indicates that the message was sent to an invalid email address that should not be retried.

  • Soft Bounces - these bounces are caused by full mailboxes or temporary server unavailability. A Soft Bounce is a temporary error or delay indicating that the message was set to a valid recipient address

  • Block Bounces - A Block Bounce occurs when the email server rejects the email because of a lack of authentication, or if the domain or IP address appears on a blocklist. A subscriber who receives a block bounce is retried in the next email send.
