This guide shows you how to set up your DNS on Cloudflare so your emails from edrone reach your clients' inboxes and meet authentication requirements (SPF, DKIM, DMARC).
📌 Tip: you no longer need to add SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records one by one. You only need to add the NS records edrone gives you.
Is your domain already on Cloudflare?
If your domain's nameservers already point to Cloudflare, skip ahead to Step 1. If you haven't moved your domain to Cloudflare yet, do this first:
Go to dash.cloudflare.com and add your site. Enter only the domain (no "www" or "https://") and click Continue.
Choose the Free plan.
Cloudflare scans and imports your existing DNS records. Check that your MX and TXT records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) were imported correctly. Don't delete any record you don't recognize - it may still be in use.
Copy the 2 nameservers Cloudflare gives you (they end in
.ns.cloudflare.com).Go to your domain's registrar (not Cloudflare) and replace the existing nameservers with the ones from Cloudflare. Save.
💡 Tip: copy the nameservers exactly - one wrong character breaks the domain. If DNSSEC is enabled at your registrar, turn it off before you switch nameservers, or the change can fail.
Cloudflare emails you when your domain becomes Active. This can take a few hours, and up to 48 hours in some cases.
Step 1 - Configuring DNS records in edrone
Go to your edrone Control Panel, then Settings > Integration > Sending Domain. Add your domain and click "Configure DNS records." edrone shows you the recommended NS records - you don't need to add SPF, DKIM, or DMARC records individually.
Step 2 - Adding the records in Cloudflare
In Cloudflare, go to DNS in the left sidebar and click Add record.
Set Type to NS.
Fill in Name and Content with the values edrone gave you.
Set the Proxy status, then click Save.
Repeat for each NS record edrone provided.
⚠️ Important: for edrone's NS records, Proxy status must be "DNS only" (grey cloud) - never Proxied (orange cloud). Proxied only makes sense for the records that point to your website. If you leave edrone's NS record set to Proxied by mistake, the configuration will not work correctly.
Then go back to edrone and verify the configuration. Propagation can take up to 48 hours - don't assume it failed after just a few minutes.
Can't add NS records?
If your DNS provider doesn't support NS records, click "I can't configure NS records" in edrone's DNS configuration window. You'll get an alternative setup using standard CNAME and TXT records instead.
Common mistakes to avoid
Typing a nameserver wrong at the registrar.
Leaving Proxy (orange cloud) on for email or NS records.
Deleting a DNS record you didn't recognize.
Checking too soon - propagation can take up to 24-48 hours.
Switching nameservers while DNSSEC is still on.
