We've collected the most common questions about subdomain warm-up and sending a newsletter spread over several days. If you first want to understand what warm-up is and why we are introducing it, start with the article about sending subdomain warm-up.
Do I need to do anything for warm-up to start?
No. Spreading the send over several days is on by default and you don't need to configure anything. If your subdomains are not verified yet, see Verification of sending domain.
Why wasn't this available before, and why are you introducing it now?
We keep developing sending so that your emails reach as many recipients as possible. Mailbox providers' requirements are growing, and sending from your own warmed-up subdomain is now the best way to protect against them. That is why we are introducing a gradual increase in sending.
As a result, your subdomain's reputation grows with every campaign, and you are ready for the season. You don't need to configure anything, and we take care of everything on our side.
Do I pay more for this?
No. Warm-up involves no additional costs.
Does this also apply to automations and SMS?
At the moment it applies only to email newsletters.
How do I know when warm-up will end?
You can check warm-up progress in the sending settings: click the profile menu and go to Your store → Sending settings. There you'll find indicators that let you monitor the status of your subdomain on an ongoing basis. In addition, for a scheduled newsletter you will see the planned end of the send.
What happens after warm-up ends? Can I then send everything in one day?
Yes.
How does a subdomain differ from my main domain, and why can't I send from the main one?
The main domain is your primary address (e.g. yourstore.com). A subdomain is its dedicated "branch" (e.g. newsletter.yourstore.com) that we prepared specifically for sending. On the subdomains (newsletter for newsletters and messages for automations) we build the sender's reputation, which thanks to warm-up grows with every send and protects your main domain.
Sending from the main domain is possible, but then warm-up doesn't work and reputation doesn't grow on the newsletter address. This happens in two cases:
when you turn off warm-up in the last step of sending a newsletter,
when your subdomains are not verified (no NS).
Emails are delivered in both cases. To use warm-up, verify your subdomains following the instructions in the article Verification of sending domain.
Why do I see edrone.io, and does it mean my emails are worse?
edrone.io is our backup domain. The emails are delivered, but this part of the send doesn't build your domain's reputation, and the deliverability of this domain is less certain than that of your own warmed-up subdomain.
Is the fallback (backup address) something worse? Why do you use it at all?
It is a safeguard so that no email gets lost. Whatever doesn't fit in the subdomain's daily limit goes out from the backup address, so the whole campaign reaches the whole list and is fully safe.
Why can't you send everything from my main domain?
Because then you wouldn't be building the reputation of your own domain, and ultimately it is the one that should send your messages.
I'm reducing the number of days of the campaign (e.g. from 7 to 3). Will all recipients get the email?
Yes, all recipients will get the message. Fewer days only means that more emails will go out from the main domain and fewer from your subdomain.
Why this is so: the subdomain is only just warming up, so on one day it can send only some of the emails, and a bit more each day. Fewer days means a smaller total number of emails from the subdomain. On the last day we send the rest, and whatever doesn't fit in the subdomain's limit goes out through the main domain.
Why can't I use an A/B test or a recurring newsletter?
A/B tests and recurring newsletters are available only for a one-day send. With a send over 2 days or more these options are unavailable. If you want to use an A/B test, choose 1 day — but remember that then the vast majority of messages will go out from the main domain.
Can I send several multi-day newsletters on the same day?
No. Only one such send can run on a given day. A send spread over several days reserves the subdomain's entire daily limit for every day it runs, so nothing is left for a second one.
I want to send an urgent campaign, but I already have a multi-day send scheduled. What do I do?
You can always send a regular, one-day newsletter (without warm-up). However, all emails from such a newsletter will go out through the main domain (fallback), because the multi-day send uses up the subdomain's limit for that day.
My newsletter has a promotion until midnight. What now?
Schedule it for one day. It is a regular newsletter that works as it has until now.
Can I cancel or change a newsletter during a multi-day send?
Before the first send starts: cancelling returns the newsletter to draft, just like a regular newsletter.
After sending has started: the newsletter is stopped, the following portions will not be sent, and the status changes to Canceled. It will no longer return to draft.
