Why do we use separate domains?
To help make sure your most important emails reach your customers, we use two different sending subdomains:
Transactional – for automated emails.
Marketing – for newsletters and campaigns.
This helps protect the delivery of important emails.
Two types of emails
Transactional emails are sent automatically when a customer does something, for example:
abandons a cart,
returns after being inactive,
receives product recommendations,
signs up and gets a welcome email.
Customers usually expect these emails and open them quickly.
Marketing emails include newsletters and promotional campaigns sent to many people at the same time.
These two types of emails are sent differently and get different levels of engagement, such as opens, clicks, and spam reports.
Why is this important?
Email providers like Gmail and Outlook keep track of your sender reputation.
If both transactional and marketing emails are sent from the same domain, they share the same reputation. For example, if a large marketing campaign gets poor engagement, it can also affect the delivery of important transactional emails.
By using separate subdomains:
each email type has its own reputation,
problems with marketing emails do not affect transactional emails,
important automated emails are better protected,
it is easier to improve and manage email settings in the future.
What does this mean for your customers?
The only visible change is that automated emails and newsletters may come from different sender addresses.
Everything else stays the same:
your email addresses remain the same,
the design of your emails does not change,
the technical setup happens behind the scenes.
What if I don't add all DNS records?
Nothing will break and no emails will be lost.
If you add DNS records for one email stream, it will start using its new dedicated subdomain.
If you do not add the records for the other stream, it will continue sending from the current domain.
You get the full benefit of separate sender reputations only after adding all the required DNS records.
